Colorado Science and Engineering Policy Fellowship

From June to August 2023, I was a Colorado Science and Engineering Policy Fellow. Through the fellowship, run by Colorado State Senators Chris Hansen and Cleave Simpson, I had the opportunity to engage with many people at the intersection of science and policy in the state. I also developed a policy proposal, which I delivered to the senators and other fellows in a 30-minute presentation at the end of the summer. I focused on policy strategies to support Colorado's industrial hemp supply chain.

Hemp Policy Proposal

To develop my policy proposal (slides below), I spoke with many stakeholders across the state. During the fellowship's field trip to the San Luis Valley, I had the opportunity to see some of Senator Simpson's volunteer hemp crop that remained from his previous season of planting and tour Formation Ag and Global Fiber, the only industrial hemp processors in Colorado.
