Golden Buffalo Marching Band

Sko Buffs!

I have been a member of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band (GBMB) since Fall 2020. During my time with the band, I have supported the buffs unequivocally and enthusiastically as an alto saxophone player, then as alto sax section leader during the 2022 season, and finally as one of three drum majors for the 2023 season. I also support the CU volleyball and men's and women's basketball teams in the Buff Basketball Band in the spring. I have learned so much and built such a strong community in the band that any portfolio about me feels incomplete without a section about my involvement in the GBMB.

Resilience

Marching band is not for the faint of heart, and the skills of dedication and resilience I've developed via my participation in the GBMB have become vital to other aspects of my life. I have learned to push through physical and mental challenges for the benefit of a larger team, and to continue to practice and improve even after initially struggling. At the band banquet in Fall 2023, I was voted the "Most Improved" by my peers.

Leadership

From alto sax section leader to drum major for the GBMB, I have practiced and developed my leadership skills substantially. I have grown significantly as a leader from feedback from other members, leadership, and staff in the band and had the opportunity to put theoretical leadership strategies into practice.  As drum major, I led fundamental marching blocks over a loud speaker to the whole band, which greatly improved my teaching skills.

Community

One of my favorite parts about being in the GBMB is the community. I am passionate about my active involvement in making the band a more inclusive, welcoming environment. After organizing alto ice skating nights, ski trip, secret santa, and more, I have fostered a sense of belonging for myself and others in the marching band.
